Drain update [January 23, 2017]

We provided the information below regarding the BSL Drain in our Fall / Winter 2016 Party Line BSL Newsletter. We have additional information to pass along at this time including:

Plans were moving quickly to get the permit for the new drain; hold a public meeting; and get bids to construct the new drain. Based on information from Steve Leonard at the Lake County Road Commission on January 10, 2017, it appeared that the process could be completed by late Spring 2017.

Unfortunately, on January 19, 2017, Steve Leonard communicated with us and indicated that the entire project was now on hold due to a concern related to the habitat for the Eastern Massasauga Rattlesnake. We have been told that there will be a 90 day delay as this matter is assessed. This was a very unexpected event which will delay the drain replacement until at least the end of the Summer 2017.

So, to summarize:

1. There is no public meeting scheduled at this time related to the BSL drain;

2. The BSL drain project process is delayed for at least 90 days;

3. As soon as we hear any additional news about the drain, we will publish it on the BSL website.
