Fish Contest 2010
The results are all in, the final tallies, have been tallied and the winners have been selected for the 2010 fishing contest on Big Star Lake. It was …. a warm one at that. I would like to thank all who took the time to fill out the contest forms and get them to me in a timely manner. Entries were up about thirty percent from last year (unscientific) with a lot of duplication in the popular species bluegills, crappie and bass which is understandable since that is the targeted species. There were fractions of inches separating the winners and almost winners. Just remember some of the not so targeted fish can be entered and do not have to be of trophy proportions for a chance at one of the rod and reel combinations I offer in the almost winner category in each of the younger age groups. The adults can look forward at a chance for a nice gift certificate from one of the local businesses up there, but you must enter to be eligible.
I communicate with the area biologist (DNR) for our lake the best I can using the results of the fishing contest and casual conversations on the water and with other local fisherman. This information is much appreciated, and helps form fishery plans for our lake. I have included his reply to my letter that I sent to him along with his contact information. Please drop him a line with any questions, concerns or personal observation you may have concerning our fishery at Big Star Lake.
The 2011 Contest is the same as last year — it begins on opening day of Bass Season and ends on Labor Day. The entry form must be filled out completely, picture included and mailed to the address on the form by October 1st. Please put your name on back of picture. Entry forms can be obtained from your area director or downloaded here.
